The Big 12 Conference’s football media days wrapped up Thursday, but not before Oklahoma offensive lineman Davin Joseph spoke to Sooner Spectator about a few topics relating to the upcoming 2005 season.
Sooner Spectator: What are your thoughts about starting over with a quarterback who no longer has the experience of a Josh Heupel, Nate Hybl or Jason White — guys who have solidified the program during the Stoops era?
Davin Joseph: (The young guys) have been around for the championship games, going on the rise with us and seeing what it takes to win and watching Jason White play, in my opinion, one of the best quarterbacks to every play here. So, they have a foundation that they can build on. Especially playing behind that guy and being in the same film room as him with his hard work ethic.
SS: What have you been doing this summer?
Joseph: Shoot, we’ve been working hard this summer. I’ve been taking a little French class and just working out and keeping it simple this summer. My day is done by 1 p.m. I’m waking up early though. I wake up about 4:30 (a.m.) and I’m done by 1 and just relaxing at home.
SS: What is your report about how the summer has been going for the team?
Joseph: Adrian (Peterson) is doing fine. His shoulder is back to almost 100 percent. He’ll back to start camp. Dusty (Dvoracek) is doing great. Some of the freshman that are coming in — they’ve been doing outstanding. We have some guys coming in that are in great physical condition for being so young. I can’t wait to see them during two-a-days to see what they’re going to bring to the team this year.
SS: Nobody jumps out like A.D. did last year, though?
Joseph: Well, A.D. didn’t jump out until about the second game. He struggled through two-a-days also. But in preseason, he did really well. They don’t have any older guys working out with the younger guys this year. They have them all working together. He did show everyone up there. Adrian is still killing workouts though. I don’t think he’ll ever change.
SS: And how is Dusty recovering?
Joseph: Dusty is doing fine. He’s gonna be back for the first game. Adrian should be back for two-a-days at 100 percent, too.
SS: So the summer has been good for you guys getting ready for the season?
Joseph: It’s been fun. Just watching these guys that haven’t played and watching them battle for spots. That’s really a part of our summer program is getting through those summer workouts and impressing the coaches. So watching those guys out there with sprints and lifting and trying to become stronger and better, it’s been quite a show.
