Baseball
Last Week: The Sooners (28-22, 11-13 Big 12) used extra innings during a
5-4 win in game three to take two out of three games against Oklahoma
State in the Bedlam Series on Sunday. Russell Raley's game winning RBI
in the 11th inning plated Ryan Rohlinger and secured the series win at
the Bricktown Ballpark. By winning the series against OSU, the Sooners,
tied for fifth place with OSU, clinched a spot in the 2005 Phillips 66
Big 12 Tournament held in Oklahoma City this season. OU is one of five
teams to have secured a place in the conference postseason (Baylor,
Nebraska, Texas and Missouri). OU dropped game one to the Cowboys, 3-1,
on Saturday after Friday's series opener was suspended due to severe
weather in Tulsa at Drillers Stadium. The Sooners then came back hours
later to rebound and even the series with a 4-3 win in game two at the
"Brick."
This Week: OU will conclude the regular season with five home games.
The home stand gets started with a two-game set against Northern
Colorado on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.,
at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU will wrap up the Big 12 schedule with a
series against Texas Tech this weekend. The Red Raiders are 9-13 in Big
12 play this season and sit in seventh place. Friday's series opener is
scheduled for a 7 p.m. first pitch and will be followed by 1 p.m. games
on Saturday and Sunday. All three games of the series are scheduled to
be aired on ESPNU (DirecTV Ch. 609).
Notes: Junior Will Savage (8-3) earned a win and a save in three relief
appearances this week. Savage, named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week
on May 10, has now appeared in OU's last eight games, all in relief.
Savage gave up his first run on Sunday after going 10 innings of
shutting out opponents but still managed to record a 1.08 ERA for his
three appearances this week. Savage played a major role in the Sooners'
Bedlam Series win over the weekend, facing 28 batters and allowing just
seven hits in 8.1 innings tossed. Savage struck out two and walked zero
as he held OSU batters to a .250 clip.
